Buhari speaks on importance of NYSC but silent on Minister’s certificate scandal

President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken on the need for Nigerians to take part in the national youth service, NYSC, but continued to maintain silence over the revelation that his minister skipped the mandatory programme and obtained a fake exemption certificate.

A PREMIUM TIMES investigation showed that finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, failed to serve despite graduating before the age of 30. The minister obtained a forged discharge certificate afterwards, when she was apparently not entitled to one.
Over 44 days after the revelation, the Minister has refused to react to the scandal. The federal government has also failed to address the matter.
On Tuesday however, while celebrating Sallah in Daura, his hometown, Mr Buhari said his support for the scheme remains unchanged.
The president, after prayers, received members of the NYSC serving in Daura community- an audience that has become part of his schedule during the Sallah celebrations in the past years.
While reaffirming his support for the scheme established in 1973, Mr Buhari told the corps members that: ‘‘It is better to know all about the country than for people to be state-inclined.
‘‘I always look forward to meeting the NYSC team because I served mostly in the south when I was in the military.”
He said that during his military career that many people did not know much outside their immediate environment.
‘‘For them (NYSC members) to be brought to the desert or near the Sahel region is a very difficult thing but it will make an impact on Nigeria.
‘‘I have personally spoken to Gen. Gowon to thank him for having the initiative to start the NYSC programme. It is very good for Nigeria.’’

We've been charging our smartphones wrong all this time

take note... No matter how good the battery is on your smartphone, if you're using it heavily, it will barely last you an entire day. For some people the reality is even worse, with an old iPhone 5 I used to have, if I managed to get eight hours of life from it, I'd consider myself very lucky. Things got even worse as the battery aged. But, there's a long-held belief that charging your smartphone in short bursts will cause long term damage to the batteries, and you're better off waiting until they're close to dead before charging them. But this isn't true according to a site belonging to battery company Cadex called  Battery University . They argue that leaving your phone plugged in when it's fully charged (like say, if you put it charging overnight) is bad for the battery in the long run. Once your phone reaches the desired 100% battery when it's plugged in, it receives "trickle charges" to maintain the battery at ful...

Alpha Jetman Blows the Doors of Possibility Wide Open

Can you imagine actually  becoming the plane? Yves Rossy created a winged jetpack that enables him to take to the sky with the freedom of a bird, awarding him the accurate moniker of  Jet Man.  And let me tell you, seeing a human body flying right next to full metal jets has completely shaken up what’s possible! Yves Rossy is just one of those great people who must never have heard “it can’t be done” . We thank both Airborne Films–Jetman (what beautiful work) and XDubai (leading out on the edges) for bringing us some of the Jetman story in the videos below! The marvel of this leap in aviation is incalculable. I’m not sorry to admit that my sense of possibility was expanded by watching this and that I shed a little tear. Just imagine the thoughts running through the minds of those jet pilots flying in formation, watching JetMan and his friend crisscross the sky above them   was going to leave it there, but I had so many questions. I’m not s...

See why women should have regular intercourse

A psychiatrist, Dr Maymunah Kadiri, has advised married women to have regular sex with their spouses in order to prevent depression and gain happiness. Kadiri, the Medical Director of Pinnacle Medical Services gave the advice in an interview in Lagos. According to her, sex is not just to nourish a woman’s body, but it is also beneficial to her mental health As women, there is need for us to make our spouses our best friends if we want to be mentally healthy.“       Studies have shown that women who have more active sex and in long term relationships were less likely to be depressed than women who went without sex.“ So, more sex is important and essential. It is a remedy to curing women from having persistent headache.“ Low sexual drive, which leads to depression, should be looked into. A woman can be depressed when that sexual drive that she used to have is no more there. Frequent active sex can play good roles toward women’s sense of well bein...
